Te Whare Oranga ō Parakai is owned by the Helensville District Health Trust, a not-for-profit with 25 years of experience in growing successful community initiatives, including the Helensville Birthing Centre and the Kaipara Medical Centre. Te Whare Oranga ō Parakai is our most groundbreaking project to date and we are excited to share it with you.
Much more than just another community centre ‘Whare Oranga’, as it is becoming known, has been set up as a sustainable social enterprise for all who live, work and play in the South Kaipara to benefit from and enjoy.
Ours is a region that presents incredible potential for entrepreneurs, businesses, families and individuals including our youth and our elders. Harnessing opportunities for economic development, education and health promotion, Te Whare Oranga ō Parakai aims to facilitate the greater wellbeing of the South Kaipara and its people.
With substantial architectural and interior design renovations about to begin, Te Whare Oranga reopened in April 2015 with a new layout, a new look and a new purpose.
We are pleased to hear that our service is appreciated and that our first time users are becoming frequent users.
We are also happy to negotiate the booking of our site outside of business hours for functions etc that fit within our kaupapa and for functions that do not include alcohol.
While it is vital to our physical health, we believe food can also provide our community with economic, educational and cultural sustenance. Regarded as Auckland’s ‘food basket’, the South Kaipara region is ripe for a revolution in the economic realisation of how valuable our land, our resources, and our people are to wider Auckland and NZ.
Not only do we have a commercial grade kitchen, but we offer professional cooking classes for children and adults. Our onsite Kitchen Manager can cater for your function, whatever your needs.
But nowhere more so do you see the essence of the South Kaipara Food Revolution, than at the monthly Harvest Market, held on site at Te Whare Oranga, on the last Sunday of every month from 10am-1pm.
