Te Whare Oranga ō Parakai

Generously gifted to the Helensville District Health Trust by the Parakai Licensing Trust in 2013, Te Whare Oranga ō Parakai is the former Parakai Tavern and the Trust's most groundbreaking project to date.

Community forums, discussions, calls for public submissions and too many meetings to count have decided an exciting future for the space as a 'House of Wellbeing'.  Pivotal to Te Whare Oranga is the South Kaipara Food Revolution with its monthly Harvest Market and opportunities for growers, producers, farmers and cooks.  Serving as the Headquarters for the Food Revolution, Te Whare Oranga is also home to the Community Economic Development Scheme.

Te Whare Oranga ō Parakai is for ALL to use and benefit from.  We hope to attract residents from all around South Kaipara to enjoy and take advantage of the fantastic array of services and opportunities that will be available at this incredible community owned centre from March 2015.

Directed by the Helensville District Health Trust Manager, Sue Miller, Te Whare Oranga ō Parakai is managed by a voluntary steering committee which meets at least once a month and is made up of a diverse range of community-minded residents, representatives and business owners including:

  • Peter Brennan
  • Brent Bailey
  • Keryn Reardon
  • Pam Malcolm (Unitec)
  • Rory McGillycuddy
  • Imelda King (Project Manager)
  • Chair: Sue Miller

A place for all of South Kaipara to work, meet, share and enjoy.
