How You Can Use The Thrive Kaipara Kitchens

Classes & Education

Food is such a crucial part of our lives, far more than just our physical health and wellbeing. Our lives are richer for the shared experience of sitting down to enjoy a wonderful, home-cooked meal made with love and care.

That's why the kitchen at Te Whare Oranga is so central to our building and our philosophy. 

We want our kitchen to be alive with enthusiastic students - both young and old(er) - who want to learn more about how to cook creatively and healthily.  

Our monthly Kids' Kitchen Club, held during the Harvest Market is one of the most popular events on the Te Whare Oranga calendar. 

We have also been running School Cooking Clubs throughout 2016. We began with students from Parakai School, then throughout the year had students from Helensville Primary and Waioneke Primary take part in an eight-week long course. Each week the students learn about food from a different part of the world, then they cook it and of course, get to eat it! One week it may be taro chips from Samoa, the next spicy Vietnamese spring rolls and dipping sauce.

We're extremely grateful to the Rodney District Board, Foundation North and Helensville Lions for their financial support to allow students access to this wonderful world of food!  

It's not all about the kids. Most months we also offer an Adults Cooking Class where we'll focus on one particular cuisine - it might be revealing the secrets of the perfect risotto or how to create your own taste explosion with a delicious Thai Curry.

Teaching Kitchen 

Of course, you might have your own passions for a particular food that you'd like to share, which is why our kitchen is available for you to hire to host your own cooking classes. 

We welcome inquiries from anyone wanting to use our facilities to promote health and wellbeing among our community. 

Commercial Kitchen

The fully equipped Commercial Kitchen is open for hire. Hireage is on a per hourly basis and booking is essential.

Equipment for use includes a six-burner gas stove with French door oven, a fan forced oven, prover oven, four -electric hob with oven, large mixer, fridge, freezer, pots and pans, cutlery and crockery.
